Welcoming staff and student from the University of Pretoria

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM / KA171 2022) program and with the initiative of Mr. Anastasios Matsopoulos, Director of the Educational Psychology Unit and Associate Professor of the Department of Preschool Education, the University of Crete built a fruitful collaboration with the internationally recognized University of Pretoria, South Africa.

3 incoming mobilities were implemented at the Rethymno Campus:

- 1. PhD candidate in School Psychology of the above mentioned University, Ms. Miche Conway, came to our Institution for short-term study activity.

- 2 Professors, Ms Ruth Mampane, Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria, and Ms Margaret Funke Omidire, visited the University of Crete, focusing on teaching and training issues (from 4.11.2024 to 13.11.2024).

On Wednesday 6th of November, 2024, a round table meeting was held with the presence of the Vice-Rector for Development, International Relations and Outreach, Ms Eleni Melina Tamiolaki, as well as the Dean of the School of Education Sciences, Mr Andreas Fountoulakis. This meeting was a productive one regarding the exchange of ideas for further cooperation between academic members of the University of Crete and the University of Pretoria.

In addition, the two Professors had the opportunity to meet other members of the academic staff from the School of Education Sciences and the Department of Psychology and to discuss different options for future collaborations between both Institutions concerning the undergraduate and postgraduate level of studies.

A guided tour to Rethymno old town was offered to our guests by the Municipality of Rethymno.

They had the chance to be informed  about the history of the wider area and the island of Crete.

It is worth noting that within the framework of the same program (KA171 2022) Mr. Matsopoulos had previously paid a 10-day visit to the University of Pretoria, before the beginning of last fall semester.

On behalf of the International Relations Dept. in Rethymno
